Post traumatic stress disorder, Orlando doctors, direct primary care, Orlando fl

Welcome back to Wellness Wednesday! In honor of National PTSD Awareness Day, we will be covering Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder today.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is a mental disorder that occurs when someone experiences a traumatic event or when they are exposed to a dangerous situation. Patients who suffer from PTSD experience flashbacks that can include physical reactions to fear such as sweating or racing heart, difficulty sleeping, having bad dreams when they do, outbursts of anger, negative thoughts difficulty remembering specific details of the event and feelings of guilt or blame. These symptoms typically last for longer than a month and can occur anywhere between 3 months to years after the traumatic event occurred.

PTSD affects each individual differently so treatment often varies depending on the severity of symptoms. The most common treatments, however, are psychotherapy (also known as talk therapy) and/or antidepressants.

If you think that you or someone you know is suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, please consult a medical professional. They can refer you to someone who is properly trained to help manage your symptoms and get you on the steps to recovery. As a practice, we want our Family Tree family to know that we value all aspects of your health and take your mental health just as seriously as your physical health.
