Today we’d like to talk about mental health awareness, something that we take very seriously at Family Tree Primary Care.
We know, it’s not a fun topic, but it’s important and truly lifesaving. This isn’t about a statin medication that lowers your cardiovascular disease risk across a 10-year timeframe. This is something that affects people every day of their lives.
Mental Health Conditions as Diseases We Can Treat
Whether it be depression, anxiety, phobias, schizophrenia, ADHD, or any of the dozens of other diseases. And that’s what they are … diseases.
But it’s not like hypertension which can be easily measured, or an ear infection that can be quickly resolved with some medication. These are invisible to the eye, and all too often, carry a negative social stigma with them. It’s important to seek help.
Our job as physicians isn’t just to manage your blood pressure, and diabetes … it’s to help you with your overall health.
Unfortunately, the end result for far too many of people suffering from mental health is suicide. There is help, there is hope!
Often times it’s a chemical imbalance in the brain, and that’s no more your fault than a type 1 diabetic whose pancreas can’t produce insulin.
You don’t need to be shamed, you need a careful ear and a caring heart.
Please reach out to your friends, your doctors, and in those dark times, even the suicide hotlines at 1-800-SUICIDE or 1-800-273-TALK.
If talking is too much to bear, did you know you can even text “HOME” to 741741?
The Orlando area specifically has the Community Crisis Line at 407-425-2624 and the Teen Hotline at 407-841-7413.
Mental Health touches us all, either personally, or through a loved one. If you’d like to speak with our team about yourself or a loved one, please contact us.
